           This week we have begun working on our container home project. We did a precedent study, decided how many containers to use and where to put them, and created three different diagrams: adjacency matrix, bubble diagrams, and block diagrams.           For my precedent study, I selected two different container homes. I chose the first one because  it makes great use of the small space. I want to try to achieve this by using only two  containers for my house.          I chose the second house because it keeps many spaces open and uses many windows to let in natural light and make the spaces seem bigger.         I plan to use two containers for my project and place it in Holland, Michigan.                    This week, for our sketches, we continued to practice sketching, with this week's sketches being ...

Blog 8 - Emphasis and Contrast

           This week in class, we discussed emphasis and contrast. Emphasis is the purposeful development of a focal point. It establishes hierarchy and gives a sense of drama, balance, and personality. It also determines how a viewer perceives or feels about a space and can be achieved through texture, lighting, furniture, view, or architectural details.            Contrast occurs when two or more opposing elements or characteristics are present in a space. While cohesiveness is important, it can tend to blend things together, making the space monotonous. Contrast adds balance through different elements. It can be achieved with color, shape, material, texture, or style.
